Casemedia complies with safety and sustainability in the transport of goods

Safety and environmental protection are fundamental in the transport of dangerous goods, and ISPM15 packaging helps to ensure these conditions.

Wooden crates are used as export packaging for sea, land or air shipments. They guarantee total protection of the goods until they reach their destination. When using this material, we must take into account that wood packaging must be properly regulated

What is the ISPM 15 certificate?

ISPM 15 certification is a legal requirement for wood packaging used in the transport of goods, especially when it comes to exports and imports. The regulations establish specific requirements for wood packaging used in this type of transport, and the ISPM 15 certificate guarantees that such packaging complies with them.

To obtain ISPM 15 certification for wood packaging, it must meet the safety and environmental protection standards set out in the regulations. This includes requirements such as the use of treated wood to prevent the spread of pests and diseases, and the manufacture of impact- and shock-resistant packaging.

In addition to meeting these technical requirements, wood packaging must undergo quality and strength tests before being granted ISPM15 certification. These tests include mechanical strength and static stability tests, among others.

ISPM 15 packaging is especially useful for imports and exports, as well as dangerous goods such as chemicals and flammable substances, as it provides additional protection against accidents during transportation.

It is important to note that the ISPM 15 certificate is only valid for a limited period of time and must be renewed periodically, depending on the use and condition of the packaging. It is the responsibility of the manufacturer and/or owner of the packaging to ensure that the certificate is renewed before it expires. It is important to follow the regulations and keep the ISPM15 certificate up to date to ensure safe transport of dangerous goods.

Which countries require ISPM 15?

Countries that are part of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) that require compliance with ISPM 15 for imports and exports are:
- Europe: all European Union countries, as well as Norway, Switzerland, Croatia, Ukraine and Belarus.
- The Americas: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Uruguay, Venezuela, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago and the United States.

Wooden packaging with ISPM 15 certificate

In Casemedia's team we study each project of our customers, as well as the specific requirements of the goods to be transported. Depending on the dimensions of the products or pieces, we design and manufacture customized wooden boxes with ISPM 15 certification. We create a suitable and 100% customized packaging and, to make it even more resistant, the wooden box can be equipped with metal reinforcements or frames. You can contact us to tell us about your project so that we can design and manufacture wooden crates according to your needs.

There are many advantages offered by wooden crates as export packaging. Among them we can highlight that it is a durable, natural and robust product, which allows its reuse, providing economic advantages that make it a very attractive packaging. Wood also acts as a thermal and acoustic insulator, and has a high resistance to impacts, making it a high quality packaging.

From Casemedia, all our wooden packaging has phytosanitary certification for export ISPM 15 (ISPM 15). We also have certified packaging with the specification "ATA 300 Category II" and packaging for dangerous goods "UN", as well as ISO 9001: 2015 certification.

Due to the importance of complying with this regulation, we recommend always using packaging suppliers that have obtained the authorization and registration number to operate and mark wood packaging under the ISPM-15 Standard, such as Casemedia Embalajes S.L.U.
